7 Ways To Implement Green Greetings This Holiday

According to Hallmark, Americans send 1.8 billion cards during the holidays.  As you send out holiday cheer, consider going green this year.  There are many options that will allow you to send holiday cheer!

Here are 7 ways to give Green Greetings to friends of family:

  • Go through your card list – Take the time to review your contacts.  Who really loves and appreciates cards?  Be sure to put them at the top of the list.
  • Update your address book/spreadsheet/e-mail list - Do you actually talk to everyone on your list?  Some people might just be there because you sent one email to them.
  • Choose your cards – Are you creating homemade cards?  If you have artists in your family it could become a fun side project.
  • What goes in your cards? – Consider if you will include photos or other personalized material.
  • Do a newsletter –   Start a draft explaining what you might tell people you haven’t seen in a while at a gathering.
  • Have a Green Drinks Party – Have everyone bring some food or drink and a green greeting they created.
  • Use Email -  E-cards take a lot less time, energy and resources.  You can make it extra meaningful if you have some relevant pictures and words to share.

If you can’t get them out early, get them out late. New Year’s is close or if you are really behind how about Christmas in July (July 25th) that is often celebrated in our national parks!
Here are some green ideas for all those holiday cards you receive:

  • Use them for a school project
  • Cut them up and use them as gift tags or to decorate a present
  • Ask if your local school’s art or science program could make use of these materials
  • Recycle them with your newspapers
