Organizing Your Mind: Checking in on Resolutions

By now most people have failed in their New Year’s resolutions.   As we are over the half way point of the year (wow has it flown!) check in with your goals so that he second half of the year focuses on what you want!

Were your resolutions the priorities in your life?  Have things changed and you need to focus on something different?

The more organized you are in your mind the more organized you will be in your physical environment. For example, if you make losing weight your number one priority, you will want to keep your kitchen organized and de-cluttered because you will quickly realize that a cluttered kitchen is not conducive to cooking; you can see why you would want to rely on take out and frozen foods instead of cooking healthy meals.

Here is to a great second half of the year!

Looking for something different to do this summer instead of the usual beach or mountains?  Organic farms across the country are offering haycations.  Enjoy yourself, get a workout and purchase things like homemade foods that you can savor instead of some trinket that will likely end up collecting dust?

Find a place that suits your needs:

All I am askin’ for is a little RESPECT!

In the September 2009  issue of O magazine Suze Orman talked about money and personal power. Her last point was about how you respect your possessions says a lot about how you respect yourself.

Suze talked about when she was wealthy she would throw her clothes into a pile each day because she was too lazy to hang them up and thus spent a ton on dry cleaning.  She felt it showed that she didn’t respect the money she worked so hard to earn. Now, her closets are “temples of organization.”

Sometimes a room becomes so overwhelming you don’t know where to start. That is where a professional organizer can come in and help.

Are you showing respect to those items you worked so hard to earn?

Organizing for the Beach

With three children under 5, my sister in law asked me for some help in organizing what the kids would need for the beach.

I am a big fan of color coordinating for children. It makes it easier not only for the kids, but also the parents!  Get a big tote bag and coordinate towels, water bottles, toys.  The kids could only pack what fits in the tote.  We also reminded them that if they wanted to bring back seashells there would have to be room. It was easy to unpack and pack again.  Don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses!

Here are some great eco-friendly options for the beach:

Recycled sailcloths bags:

Ready for Vacation

Even though I am a planner, I am ready to roll in case some last minute plans come up. I keep all my toiletries packed and ready to throw in a suitcase. When I return from a trip I fill empty bottles. This saves me money because I don’t have to buy pint sized versions and can use what I love. After I finish unpacking from my trip, I fill up my toiletry case.

This is another great use for those samples you get at hotels or at the beauty counter. I have a bag that contains samples I have received.

If you don’t like samples you have collected, gather than up and donate them to a homeless or women’s shelter. Or have your girlfriends over for a swap party. This is also a great idea if you are de-cluttering and finally ready to part with all those half-empty bottles of shampoo, conditioner or other products that just weren’t quite right for you!
